Monstrous March Madness Winner
about 8 years ago – Wed, Apr 06, 2016 at 02:15:45 PM

All Hail Elder Thing!

Bow down or run away. It doesn't matter... The Elder Thing has defeated all others, taking the crown as the Monstrous March Madness winner. To celebrate this victory, two things will happen:

(1) The Elder Thing will be featured in the inner sleeve as a beautiful art piece inside the Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder book.

(2) We'll add a foil card of the Elder Thing to the Monster Deck.

What Monster Deck?

Oh, yeah. Sorry... The last and final stretch goal.

When we reach $175,000 every backer that has pledged $100 or more will receive a tarot-sized deck of monster cards ($25 value). On one side will be a photo of a fully painted miniature; on the other, the Pathfinder stats for that monster, from the book.

The cards will look something like this - but much much better!

Last Two Designer Pledges

One last thing... In case you missed it, we add the last two designer pledges. Each is a unique opportunity to design a monster with Sandy Petersen - so grab them while ou can!

about 8 years ago – Tue, Apr 05, 2016 at 06:44:08 PM

Elder Thing vs Nightgaunt!

Mythos monsters are battling to receive YOUR adoration and worship. The ultimate winner will be featured in the inner sleeve as a beautiful art piece inside the Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder book.

This is the final bout. The winner may be announced after the Kickstarter ends, but... Don't delay voting, because we may (hint hint) have a special announcement to make about the MMM winner if we fund The Great Stretch Goal before time runs out.

Pre-Painted Summoning Gates & MMM Semi-Final Round 1
about 8 years ago – Sun, Apr 03, 2016 at 07:22:37 PM

“A gate had been unlocked—not indeed the Ultimate Gate, but one leading from earth and time to that extension of earth which is outside time, and from which in turn the Ultimate Gate leads fearsomely and perilously to the Last Void which is outside all earths, all universes, and all matter.” (Through the Gates of the Silver Key; H. P. Lovecraft with E. Hoffmann Price)

In the Cthulhu Mythos, there is a multitude of dimensions, many of these lead to incomprehensible places where truly alien things exist. These are often the focal point for cult activities and can even be used to summon horrid monstrosities, including the Great Old Ones.

PRE-PAINTED PLASTIC GATE

This stretch goal will unlock a fully painted plastic gate for all backers that pledge at the Delver Pledge ($100) level and above. This is the only miniature available that comes pre-painted.

Additionally everyone receives two PDFs with 3D paper gaming terrain from Fat Dragon Games.

The first set includes bookcases with four shelf options and three colors of wood (perfect for storing the Necronomicon or other tomes that player characters might find), broken tables, grungy bedding, crates of various sizes and spiral staircases your minis can stand on. Fat Dragon Games DRAGONLAYERS options allow you to customize these models before printing.

The second set, Kingdom of Cthulhu, brings a new dimension to your Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder game. The Shrine of Cthulhu takes your players to a wilderness shrine complete with sacrificial altar and giant Cthulhu statue.

Both are easy to construct and are perfect for the beginner card modeler, and come with easy to follow, full color instructions to make assembly a snap!

The "Gate" in Lovecraft's tales is a sort of worm-hole, a passage to another place or dimension. It is physically constructed of geometry, and takes both time and effort. It might be a circle of stones, or a specially-built window in a house, or a carefully-plotted line drawing on the wall of a cave.

MONSTROUS MARCH MADNESS

The winner of the final opening round matchup is...

MONSTROUS MARCH MADNESS SEMI-FINAL:

Elder Thing vs Hunting Horror

Mythos monsters are battling to receive YOUR adoration and worship. The ultimate winner will be featured in the inner sleeve as a beautiful art piece inside the Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder book.

The Elder Thing and Hunting Horror have already proven they're worthy of your consideration by defeating one foe. Which one is bad enough to enter the final battle? That's up to you to decide.

Here is what you need to do: In the comments below, sound off with which creature you think deserves to win.

Stretch Goal: Advanced Adversaries
about 8 years ago – Sun, Apr 03, 2016 at 07:22:32 PM

"There squatted a stinking circle of the toadlike moonbeasts and their almost-human slaves. Some of these slaves were heating curious iron spears in the leaping flames, and at intervals applying their white-hot points to three tightly trussed prisoners that lay writhing before the leaders of the party. From the motions of their tentacles Carter could see that the blunt-snouted moonbeasts were enjoying the spectacle hugely..." (The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath; H. P. Lovecraft)

Once this Stretch Goal is funded, we will augment some of the current entries in Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder with unique versions, making them more horrifying than the 'normal' versions players may be expecting. Perhaps there will be special rules for deep one druids or moonbeast wizards... Help us fund this goal and you'll be able to find out!

Nothing gets GM blood flowing like plunking a dozen or more models down on the table and watching your players reach for their dice. It’s even more satisfying adding classes levels to these creatures and creating a truly diverse, dangerous, and memorable encounter . Instead of the players thinking they will be cleaving through a sea of enemies without thought, now the players realize they may need to think and plan.

Lovecraft’s tales are filled with intelligent entities. Indeed, beings that are more intelligent than humans are more common than otherwise. Most of them can’t fit into human culture (it’s hard to imagine an Elder Thing or Fungus from Yuggoth hanging out at Ye Ole Tavern). However many of these beings have training, even training far beyond what humans and other sentient races can conceive. Some are similar enough culturally to human to at least have class levels - such as moonbeasts or deep ones.

Former Human Horrors: Proto-Shoggoths
about 8 years ago – Sun, Apr 03, 2016 at 07:22:21 PM

Proto-shoggoths are horrid creatures that infiltrate societies, wearing the very skins of their prey. When this stretch goal is funded, everyone that receives a Former Human Horrors Campaign Collection will also receive two (2) proto-shoggoth miniatures.

A proto-Shoggoth is a creature formed from shoggoth-like material, but with more delicate protoplasm. They can be created in a number of ways, including by directly degenerating normal (even human) tissue to a more primitive state.

Compared to the true Shoggoth, a Proto-Shoggoth is proportionally weaker, and lacks the amazing mutational power. However, because of its greater “liquidity,” it is capable of holding a shape and masquerading as a human, at least when contained within tough (leather? rubber?) clothing, and someone's peeled skin. A true Shoggoth, with its power, heat, and enzymes, would rapidly break through - but the less fearsome Proto-Shoggoth can carry out such a masquerade. This, some wicked scholars find useful, and they apply arcane and biological science towards creating and domesticating these entities.
