Latest Updates from Our Project:

GenCon and new Art for the book
almost 3 years ago – Sun, Jul 31, 2016 at 12:42:50 AM

If you’re at GenCon this year stop by. We’re in booth #423 with our friends at Chaosium. We’ll have many of the miniatures at the booth, including some of the painted ones shown on the Kickstarter for you to look at. Additionally we’ll have demos of a variety of our games at GenCon (notably Cthulhu Wars and its expansions, and Theomachy, which was recently released to retail).

We feel our painters of miniatures did a great job for the Kickstarter. But they were operating under some pretty tight deadlines. We’re now having them go over these miniatures again to either repaint them or take them to the next level of quality. We want the pictures of the book to be top notch. The good news is that we’ve already have about ½ of them through this process already.

We are blessed to have a real veteran working on the layout, Liz Courts. We’ve already started trying out layout ideas to ensure they’ll look as cool as possible while simultaneously being as user friendly for player and GM alike. So far these ideas look like they’ll work out nicely.

In our last update we told you we’d put up pictures after GenCon. But we couldn’t wait. We’ve selected Kent Hamilton to be a key artist for the book. He’s a veteran artist for Pathfinder pics. Expect to see a lot of his great work in the coming weeks and within the book. Here’s one of his – the Gnorri, which is a Player Character race.

Attached here is a picture for a Dark Young by M Petersen (Arthur’s 6 year-old daughter). When she heard Grandpa (Sandy) needed art, she jumped right in and started creating. Watch out Kent!

NOTE: According to M, This particular Dark Young shoots laser beams from it’s eyes among other amazing powers. Certainly not your ‘average’ Dark Young.

You didn't know Dark Young had eyes?

Some of you may have seen in Wire Magazine or elsewhere the story and picture of a d20 from the time of the Romans. Although not exactly “news” I’ve learned a lot of people never heard about this. I thought it would be fun to share this with ya’ll. Here’s a picture of it and the link about it.

As we mentioned in the last update, the miniature packs are a ‘rare commodity’. To make these packs affordable we’re manufacturing them at the same time we’re manufacturing these miniatures for Cthulhu Wars board game and its expansions. If we did a separate run of these, they’d be VERY expensive.

There will be a very, very select few retailers spotted across the country that will have a limited supply of these miniatures available in their stores. So, if you or your friends want them, act now!

You can raise your pledge to add more miniatures. Your friends can pre-order still, for a limited time. I apologize if I sound like a late night commercial. I just know as a miniatures junky I’d be really, really peeved if I missed out on getting as many of these as possible now while I still can. And yes, we know some of you entrepreneurial capitalists out there will order extras to then sell on eBay. Cool by us. Supply and demand – that’s what it’s all about!

Look for the next update to be shortly after GenCon unless we’re too hyped up at GenCon to wait, then we’ll do an update during GenCon.

May all your d20 rolls be 20s.

And thanks again,

Brain Cylinder Report - Campaign Launch Adventure Playtesters
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jul 20, 2016 at 08:59:41 PM

We’ve got lots of fun things to report on in this update. Lots and lots of activities that are moving us forward swiftly.

Prior to the Kickstarter finishing we were testing out various ideas for the Campaign Launch Adventure. We’ve settled on which we’re going with and have been having successful alpha playtesting going on. We’ll be looking for a few volunteer groups to be beta testers in the coming weeks. No special (or any for that matter) knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos is required.

If your group is interested in being a beta tester group, email us at Please include all of the following to be considered:

# of players in your group (including the GM).

What city and country the group is in.

We’ll only be able to work with a limited number of groups, so we can’t guarantee everyone will be selected. Groups who are selected and complete the playtest will have their players listed as play-testers in the adventure. Thanks in advance for participating and joining in on the fun!

Besides photos of the painted minis as seen on the Kickstarter, we will also have paintings in the book in the ‘Classic Paizo Style.’ We’ve started interviewing artists and giving them ‘test’ assignments already. We should be able to show you the first fruits of these efforts right after GenCon.

We’ve left up the ability for people who missed the Kickstarter to still be able to participate. But this won’t last much longer. Thanks to you folks that backed this project during the Kickstarter, they get all of the applicable stretch goals (and as you know there are a lot of them). Additionally, many of the miniatures sets may not be available in retail stores. They are also not going to be available again until (or if) we do another print run of that particular miniatures set. So now is the time for them to act if they want to ensure they get everything they might want. Please spread the word.

Ninety-two Percent (92%) of you have entered your information for shipping as well as ordered any additional add-ons on the pledge manager. Thanks for doing that! If you’re in the 8% OR want to add even more goodies, you still can. You should have received an email with a link to the pledge manager. If you didn’t receive the email or have any questions regarding this, please email

On the note of shipping, we really appreciate emails of “thank you” regarding shipping. As some you may not know, Petersen Games is subsidizing the costs of shipping. We can’t cover all of the shipping costs, but we did what we can. That’s why it costs you less (in the US) to ship Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder than when you order a game book directly from Thanks again!

Keep havin’ fun!

And thanks again,

The BackerKit survey + exciting news!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 12:37:20 AM

It's been a while since we've posted any updates - since funding, in fact - but the content of this update should truly make up for that lag in communication!

GREAT NEWS! Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your daughters and your sons. The Pledge Manager for Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder is open for business! What this means for you, the backer, is that you can go in and select the details of your pledge, including which packs you want and your peeps that missed the Kickstarter can be late backers. Backerkit will be sending out surveys momentarily, and it should take them anywhere from a few hours to a day to finish sending them all. You will find them in the same email you use for your Kickstarter login.

BETTER NEWS! The project overall is going very well. Despite hitting every single stretch goal that added content to the book, we are on schedule.

AWESOME NEWS! In addition to the three mi-gos (Sandy Petersen, Ian Starcher, and Arthur Petersen) leading the design of this project, we’ve added the following folks to the team:

James Jacobs, Creative Director at Paizo is now working directly on the Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder. James is, of course, an expert on Pathfinder as well an aficionado and expert on the Cthulhu Mythos in his own right.

Liz Courts, Community Manager at Paizo is now also involved with the project on a freelance basis. Liz, a graphic designer (and good artist in her own right), will be doing the layout of the Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder book and Campaign Launch Adventure PDF. Besides being a veteran in laying out Pathfinder Compatible books, she’ll be simultaneously making sure we remain compliant to the Pathfinder Compatible Agreement. This is something that’s critical and a high priority to Petersen Games.

Jeff Hersh, designer and Hero Labs programming expert is also on board. He has been a designer and contributor for other excellent publishers and has done Hero Labs programming for several companies and have been the programmer on multiple Adventure Paths for Paizo.

Please let everyone you know who’s either into Cthulhu Mythos and/or is bored with fighting the same, old creatures, about our Kickstarter and the opportunity to be a late backer. Also, on that note, we will NOT be releasing all of the miniatures packs after the pledge manager is closed into retail stores or even on the Petersen Games website. So, in some cases this will be the ONLY chance to get them! We don’t know yet which may or may not be released, so it’s best to not take chances.

Thank You!

Thanks to you all, this campaign has exceeded our expectations! Your support has actually pushed us through ALL of the stretch goals we had planned, even those who considered to be pipe-dreams at the start. While we could try to invent some more goals, we feel that this would both increase shipping costs and slow the product’s production. Hence, out of respect for you all, and in the interests of getting this product to your doorstep as soon as possible, we have decided not to burden the project with further stretch goals. Thank you again for your great support.
