Fulfillment Prep PLUS Sandy's Note about Mythos Alignment
over 6 years ago – Thu, Mar 15, 2018 at 01:23:13 AM

Fulfillment Preparation!

We are preparing the fulfillment documents - downloading the exports from BackerKit, etc.

From this point on, if anyone needs to update their address, changing it in BackerKit won't save you!  You'll have to email Support at PetersenGames dot com and tell our support, and we'll manually adjust your address.

No packages are YET in the mail, but will be soon - within a week or two, depending on the speed of the warehouse's receiving of the goods, inventory count, and then the pick and pack process.

Also, note only the US shipment is this close. The other regions are still a few weeks out on the ocean (yes, even Asia, because we sent to US first, so although Asia and Australia aren't too far from the factory, they are still a few weeks away from the freight arriving).

Sandy's Note About Alignment

I believe I've written in a previous update that later this year (after the PF books have arrived in your tentacles) we will put the DnD 5e version of the Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos on Kickstarter. The rules are currently being translated from PF to 5e, and once that is done we will edit it and lay it out - BEFORE that KS. That way, we can promise the PDF download shortly after the KS ends!

In any case, there are a few additions (though the content is largely the same), and here is one of them that will become a large side bar in the DnD version. Note, this is NOT the edited, final copy, as Sandy only recently wrote this. But I wanted to pass it along:

Whenever Lovecraftian horrors are brought to a game featuring an alignment system (such as D&D!), almost always they are uniformly categorized as Chaotic Evil, or occasionally some other Evil alignment. Fundamentally this is wrong – “good” and “evil”, in Lovecraft’s view, are purely human perceptions, not real cosmic principles. The universe is uncaring, and to Cthulhu, humans are no more than a pulsing organic smear on his intended home’s surface. To Nyarlathotep, we are toys or resources to be expended. They don’t think in turns of being evil, or being good, or being anything. They follow their goals and needs and what we want is meaningless. When you, at home, put out cockroach poison, you don’t consider the cockroaches’ moral needs or ethics. You just exterminate them.

So how do we deal with this? Are the Great Old Ones truly all “Chaotic Evil”. Well, I would say that they are clearly not. Is Cthulhu Lawful? He is the high priest and ruler of a whole species of gigantic monsters. But his intent is to raven freely. Is he Evil? Is a nuclear bomb evil? The Great Old Ones and Outer Gods are beyond alignment, and come from dimensions beyond the Abyss, or the Planes of Torment or other aspects of the D&D universe. BUT … and this is the point … humans and intelligent beings who SERVE the Great Old Ones I would say are clearly, and definitively Evil (usually Chaotic), so this alignment still has a purpose.

In other words, Cthulhu doesn’t have an alignment. But his cult does, his priests do, and anyone who makes peace with him does, and if you are on his side, you are Evil – you have sold yourself to work an awful fate on the world. Therefore, it makes sense to call Cthulhu “Evil” in the stats included in this book, simply so it is clear what his servants are. And who you are if you are on his team.

US ETA at warehouse March 15th!

US shipment ETA at warehouse March 15th

The Ship is on the water, will land in port in about 1.5 weeks, and we are expecting it to be at our fulfillment warehouse by March 15th.

Because there are only three possible SKUs any backer is getting (the book; the collector's edition book; the bestiary deck), it should be a relatively simple pick and pack process, and most orders should be out the door swiftly.  I would expect the first orders to be arriving on your doorstep by the last week of March.

Stay tuned for the rest of the world - expect shipment to lag a few weeks behind the US.

All,

A short and sweet update:

I've uploaded the final version of the starter adventure to BackerKit. They should be sending it out to all pledges soon.

Also - I should have news on HeroLabs very soon!

Video of Advance Copy of COLLECTOR'S EDITION
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 09, 2018 at 09:04:43 PM

All,

A few weeks ago I mentioned that we had an issue with the collector's edition that could have caused a minor delay. LUCKILY, it DID NOT. The signing was done a few weeks ago as well, and this week we got the advance copy of the signed, collector's edition - actually, it arrived to TX from China, ironically, while Sandy and I were in China!

.

Yes, this really is the first time he's seen the book in physical form. He signed all the copies just by signing the page itself, before it was bound in with the rest of the pages, so this is his first time actually seeing it:
